CoreNet Global members from around the world helped to set our new Global Summit theme focus for 2011: Social Dynamics: Growing Cities, Evolving Workstyles and Global Influences

There's so much to talk about - the convergence of societal change with how brand reputations are viewed is one aspect.

Another is how economics and shifting demographics are influencing a move back to the urban environment.

But it's not just about cities; it's also about what Richard Florida calls "mega-regions." Florida's new book, The Great Reset, delves into a location-driven paradigm change that he told us about during last September's Phoenix Global Summit.

Here's a sneak peak at an excerpt of some additional insights he offered to LEADER Magazine editor Chelsie Butler that relate directly to our theme points of growing cities, evolving workstyles and global influences:

THE LEADER: How do you see the future unfolding for bigger cities?

Florida: I have always argued that the place and geography, particularly interconnected urban areas, will have a significant impact on our national economy. With this great reset, we won’t see a focus on the city versus suburb; we will focus on how to increase our connection to our respective mega-regions, which are new and incredibly powerful economic units. Worldwide, there are just 40 significant mega-regions, which are home to 1/5 of the world’s population, 2/3 of the global economic output and 85 percent of all worldwide innovation. The rise of vast mega-regions, such as the corridors stretching from Boston to New York and Washington, D.C., will intensify our use of land and space the way the industrial city did during the first reset and suburbia did in the second.
