Jim is a real estate advisor who is known for providing strategic guidance to many of Greater Boston’s medical and educational institutions. Over the past 27 years, he has helped nonprofits manage their portfolios and develop and implement real estate strategies.


Mahmood Malihi, Co-President, Leggat McCall Properties
Mahmood is responsible for co-managing Leggat McCall’s development activities. Over the past 30 years,
Mahmood has had an active role in more than $2 billion of investment and development projects many of those with leading healthcare and non-profit organizations throughout New England.

Kathy Spiegelman, Vice President and Chief of Campus Planning and Development, Northeastern University
Kathy ensures Northeastern University’s physical resources keep pace with its core values and ambitions. She is responsible for the effective use of land and buildings on Northeastern’s main campus in Boston, its graduate campuses around the country and other properties owned or leased by the university. After 25 years leading planning and real estate activities for Harvard University, and before the role at Northeastern, Kathy acted as strategic planning and real estate advisor for several private and public clients.

Karen Cutone, Director of Real Estate, Boston University
BU is one of the largest property owners in the city of Boston as well as a major national private research institution. The University operates a main urban campus as well as an academic medical center within the city limits in addition to numerous global satellite locations. Over the past 15 years, Karen has worked with University leadership to further the University’s mission through strategic implementation of real estate initiatives including development of major commercial and academic properties, the identification and acquisition of key strategic properties, the monetization of non-core assets, and identification of underperforming/underutilized assets and implementation of redevelopment and/or value enhancing management plans to optimize performance. Prior to joining the Boston University team, Karen spent 10 years in institutional real estate investment management with Copley Real Estate Advisors and AEW Capital Management.

Bill Whitney, Vice President for Real Estate, Berklee College of Music
Bill is responsible for campus planning, management of major capital projects involving substantial rehabilitation and new construction, and overseeing physical plant operations at Berklee. Bill also is responsible for leasing, both as lessee and lessor. During Bill’s tenure, the college acquired several properties, secured approval of an Institutional Master Plan, and permitted and constructed selected development projects, including the 167,000 SF 160 Massachusetts Avenue mixed-use development. Prior to joining Berklee, Bill served as Vice President of The Druker Co., Ltd., and also held planning and development positions at the New England Aquarium and the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
