CoreNet Midwest had its Mentorship Kickoff event!

The atmosphere was interactive and sociable.

by: Kelly Link

The CoreNet Midwest Mentorship Kickoff event was on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Punch Bowl Social in the cozy Holiday Lounge located in St. Louis Park. The event involved fun and interactive networking including games, food, drinks, and great conversations. Some small groups played ping-pong while others indulged in giant Scrabble. This event was all about meeting mentors and fellow mentees to develop professional relationships. There were 16 attendees at the event with 65% being Young Leaders and students! Attendees learned more about the mentorship program which included introductions, a brief overview, and next steps. It was impressive how the group mingled organically and was able to meet everyone throughout the event. The most beneficial aspect to the event was the ability to meet people face to face and get to know each other. A deeper understanding of the mentors was obtained through rich conversations. The current mentors include Ann Hansen, Kevin Ferrell, Brian Woolsey, Josh Stowers, Kevin Clark, Duane Spiegle and Rome Poppler. Next steps will be to team up YL’s, Mentors, and Students into small mentor groups who will meet every other month to discuss relevant topics to support learning, mentoring, and networking. A huge thank you to the event organizers Ashley Ochiagha, Bradley Lindberg, Joe Jetland, Kelly Link and Nick Alms along with the 2017 annual Young Leaders Sponsors Perkins+Will and Frauenshuh.
