CoreNet Midwest had its FIRST Annual Awards Gala

By: Kelly Link
The CoreNet Midwest Awards Gala was on Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Walker Art Center located in Minneapolis. The gala began with a reception including drinks, conversation, and the harmonious Zacc Harris Trio - voted City Pages Best Jazz Artist of 2017.  The reception hall was abuzz, there were 104 people in attendance with a great assortment of CoreNet members, sponsors and community supporters.

Jim Damiani was the humorous master of ceremonies who announced this year’s award winners. The cinema was humming with excitement waiting for the winners to be announced.

Congratulations to our winners!!

  • Commercial Real Estate Executive of the Year, Susan Carlson Weinberg, University of Minnesota
  • Volunteer of the Year, Barry Stoffel, Gardner Builders
  • Young Leader of the Year, Christine Maurer, Gensler
  • Innovative Project of the Year, Hines T3, DLR Group and Kraus Anderson

Thank you to our excellent judges Renae Bradshaw of Saville Studley Chicago, Diana Pisone of Ted Moudis Associates Chicago, Vik Bangia of Verum Consulting LLC, and Josh Stowers of HGA Minneapolis.

Along with the award winners, new board members were announced. A special thank you to Duane Spiegle for his many years of service to CoreNet Midwest and his outstanding tenure as president in 2017.

Following the award ceremony there was a private screening of the British Arrow Awards where the crowd laughed out loud (LOL). One of the favorite commercials was “The Road Trip” for H&M, Modern Essentials with Kevin Hart and David Beckham.  The Arrow Awards are a  ‘must see’ each season and add a lot of fun to our gala.

When the awards concluded hors d'oeuvres and libations continued in the reception hall. There were two fundraising activities at the event, a raffle for YouthLink along with collecting gift cards to give to youth during the holiday season! Thank you to Jim Damiani, Newmark Knight Frank, and Gardner Builders for generously matching all donations during the evening.

We raised a record $4,000 for YouthLink!!

Thank you to all who attended our December Awards Gala- See you next year!
