How will the changing workforce influence the workplace of 2030?

In 2020, The World Economic Forum estimated that “by 2025 85 million jobs may be displaced by a shift in the division of labour between humans and machines. But even more jobs – 97 million – may emerge that are more adapted to the new division of labour between humans, machines and algorithms”.

The jobs in demand today are very different from those in our grandparent’s generation.  Some jobs set to be in high demand for future generations don't even exist yet. Much like the computer revolution was built on top of electricity, we are seeing more and more machines doing jobs previously thought to be uniquely human – impacting fields of work from professional services to genomics. Through the pandemic we’ve seen an acceleration of investment in to digital platforms and a new generation coming in to the workforce who have different expectations to pre-pandemic. As the need for skillsets changes, how will our relationship with the office - and ultimately office design - need to change to support us?
