Adaptive Re-Use and the Future of Creative Work in Metro Detroit

Detroit is fast becoming a globally recognized "City of Design" that is attracting creative talent to the city and region.  The area is known for its architectural legacy, which includes some of the nation's best examples of late 19th & early 20th century commercial and industrial space as well as world renowned mid-20th century modern design.  As the city and region continue to grow and look to embrace a sustainable path in doing so, developers, architects, and designers are taking a fresh look at the existing building stock and re-imagining new uses for these spaces that will attract the next generation of creative talent to Detroit.  This panel will feature experts who bring global, national, and local perspectives on adaptive re-use who will explore the latest planning and design trends for creative work.  The disucssion will trace the history of design trends and Detroit's place in it, and it will encourage participants to consider new possibilities for how to position Detroit's legacy real estate resources for 21st century ways of working.  The event will take place at the Lear Innovation Center in Downtown Detroit, which will showcase a best-in-class example of an adaptive re-use strategy and design.
