The Role of Makerspace in an Innovation Economy: The city’s manufacturing legacy is advancing Houston’s emerging innovation economy through development of collaborative work spaces called makerspace.  These small urban manufacturers are the builders and fabricators within this community of entrepreneurs.  TX/RX Labs has become one of the leaders in the local movement.  Its founder will share his thoughts on makerspace models as well as his vision for makerspace in Houston.

Born in New Orleans, Roland has always had a passion for electronics and fabrication. Educated at Rice University, Roland holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Sociology. During his college career, Roland worked summers as a welder. After Graduation Roland worked as J2EE Application Developer for JP Morgan Chase for 7 years before founding his own Software and IT Services Corporation. Roland currently serves as the President of TX/RX Labs and has spent the last 9 years at the lab teaching skills such as Soldering, Electronics Design/Diagnostics, and CNC Operation and working with industry partners to provide prototyping and fabrication services.
