Kendall Square in Cambridge, known
as "The Most Innovative Square Mile on the Planet", is considered by many to be
the leading innovation cluster in the world. This compact and dynamic district
houses over 20 million square feet of offices and labs which for several years
have had a vacancy rate in the low single-digits.
What makes Kendall Square unique
is the enormous concentration of incubators and co-working environments, venture
capital firms, non-profit research organizations, and companies ranging from
entrepreneurial start-ups to leading multinationals like Biogen, Novartis,
Pfizer, Akamai, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc., all within short walking
distance to MIT, one of the world’s premier research universities, and just
minutes from Boston’s extraordinary hospitals and academic
institutions.
The CoreNet Global ERS Kendall
Square tour will help you discover this unique innovation ecosystem.
Our tour will start with a visit of Microsoft New England Research & Design
center (NERD) at One Memorial Drive.
This newly re-imagined space has
radically transformed the idea of the creative engineering workplace. Formerly
existing as entirely private offices for distraction sensitive software
engineers, the NERD Center today is a unique hybrid of team based workspace,
easily accessible individual quiet areas, and a variety of connected social
destinations that bring a new richness to the office environment.
Dena Quinn, Microsoft Senior Real
Estate Portfolio Manager, and Victor Vizgaitis, Sasaki Principal and architect
for this project, will feature a presentation at The Garage within Microsoft
premises.
Our tour will continue with a walk to the Alexandria
Center at One Kendall Square, an 800,000 square foot mixed-use urban campus with
state-of-the-art labs and offices in a renovated 100+ year-old factory, followed
by a visit to 399 Binney Street, a brand new life science building on the
campus. Tom Andrews, Executive Vice President of Alexandria Real Estate
Equities, the district’s largest commercial landlord, will present the Kendall
Square real estate story, followed by a walk-through of lab and office interior
spaces.
