The ASB Waterfront Theatre sits on the corner of Halsey and Madden Streets in the Wynyard Quarter of the Auckland Waterfront. Sited next door to the headquarters of naming rights sponsor ASB and opposite a soon to be constructed six-star Park Hyatt Hotel, the ASB Waterfront Theatre is the major cultural destination of the fast-growing innovation precinct.
The ASB Waterfront Theatre has been built with funds raised from an alliance of Auckland business, government and personal donations from across the community. Principal funders include Auckland Council, Creative New Zealand, AUT University and Foundation North together with corporate support from naming rights sponsor ASB and long-term supporter of ATC Villa Maria Wines.
Designed by eminent New Zealand architect Gordon Moller ONZM, this major cultural infrastructure project has created a stunning home for ATC and a new theatre for the performing arts and events industries.
The complex is made up of a ground floor, Level 1, hosting the main foyer and bar in the AUT Atrium which spills out into a courtyard, a 60-seat café, box office and toilets. Rising up the grand staircase the 668-seat auditorium is accessed on Levels 2 and 3. The building crowned by the Villa Maria Gallery, a VIP function room with outdoor balcony located adjacent to the Circle on Level 3.
With state-of-the-art stage house and production facilities the ASB Waterfront Theatre is Auckland’s premier new theatre for the spoken word, dance, corporate and cultural events
