EVENT DESCRIPTION
Climate change can impact businesses and institutions in a variety of ways – some seen and some less measurable. When will climate change affect you and why should CRE get involved – what can one RE team do to make a difference? Climate change is creating more than flooded streets. Winter of 2017-2018 saw severe storms – flooding, erosion, drought, high winds and fire have significantly affected businesses across the country and the world – taking Disaster Recovery to a whole new level. Not only are our facilities and assets in jeopardy, but we are just now starting to realize the affects to productivity and people. Have you been able to fully identify the risks unique to your organization? Are you taking action to mitigate those risks?
This program will explore this topic with some influential people leading the charge on developing mitigation strategies for their respective organizations. Our panel of unique resiliency champions will discuss how they are developing programs for resiliency assessment, combining business continuity, risk management and real estate planning to create capital programs and site strategies to ensure protection of their most important assets. Topics will include understanding what resources are available to the CRE, how to begin the conversation and engage key stakeholders in your organization, and what are the factors to consider when developing a resiliency strategy. Current climate projections estimate we will all be feeling the effects by 2030 – that's only 12 years away and if you are signing leases within the next 5 years, you should be concerned.
