Title: Insights and Introspections:
A Local Perspective on Global Real Estate

The term “globalization” has an imposing connotation.  When people hear “global”, they tend to think big, complex, and convoluted.  However, diversity and opportunity are also important implications of globalization.  This presentation is intended to provide an overview of the real estate function at Rio Tinto, a leading international mining company.  Rio Tinto employs more than 77,000 people in 40 countries around the world and is the Official Precious Metals Provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Mindy Glover, Regional Manager, Americas, Group Property has been involved in the real estate function since its creation in 2006, and will share stories, insights, and introspections as part of a very small global team at a very large global company.   Topics include the integration and alignment of business, real estate and workplace strategies as well as the role of technology and the pace of change in corporate real estate.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the challenges, opportunities, key learnings and best practices for a 130 year old global company with a relatively new corporate real estate function.
