Wellness & Wellbeing: A holistic approach to Corporate Real Estate

Wellness is a word that is rapidly gaining usage in New Zealand and around the world. While there are differing views on what it actually means, there is no doubt that many employers, and increasingly developers and landlords, are taking a much more holistic approach to Corporate Real Estate (CRE), recognising that improving the health and wellbeing of individuals has a positive effect on the collective organisation and that the built environment plays a key role.

Whether wellness manifests in healthy environments, support for healthier and more active lifestyles, increased social interaction or encouraging cultural and spiritual expression, there is a groundswell towards CRE solutions that enhance the health and happiness of occupants, ultimately with an expected payback of better performance and productivity benefitting the organisation.

We will explore the emerging phenomenon of wellness through a triple bottom line lens, using the topics of People, Planet and Profit, and will sharpen the focus on CRE by adding Process and Place:

People - social responsibility; equitable and beneficial for individuals and communities

Planet - environmental sustainability; reducing impact on the environment

Profit (& Prosperity) - financial sustainability; profit, return on investment and shareholder value (& prosperity; wealth, health and happiness)

Process - how work is done; activities that transform inputs into outputs

Place – where work is done; locations and spaces for people

Reflecting on the above, our 2015 Symposium will focus on latest issues facing Corporate Real Estate and the industry generally, but also consider the impact on business whilst continuing to look positively to the future.

CALL FOR CASES

Case studies should address the Symposium theme, considering the role and importance of place and reflecting changes to businesses, their working environments and communities.

If you would like to submit a case study for the next Symposium, please forward details or an outline to either:

Andrew Tu'inukuafe andrew@creativespaces.co.nz
or
Nigel Rye nigel@nigelrye.co.nz.

The call for cases will close on 16/01/2015. If you are intending to submit a case, please email us prior to this date.

Other topics deemed to be of value to our members can also be submitted for consideration. In 2015, Corenet's upcoming international summits will address the theme:

Disruptive Innovation: The Business of Change, which is focused on some of the leading challenges facing corporate real estate today.

Change is constant – and it is fast. Today’s corporate real estate (CRE) executive must confront rapidly changing business conditions, shifting demographics, technology's relentless advance, new emerging markets, collaborative workplaces, worker mobility, workplace wellbeing, intense competition for talent, the imperative for sustainable practices, how to turn around big mistakes into big lessons learned and more.
